Regis Burnside Nursing Home Redevelopment

  • $400k (Landscape)

Jensen PLUS was engaged by the Regis Group to provide planning and landscape architecture services for the redevelopment of their nursing home at Linden Park in Adelaide. The ageing site comprised a maze of buildings connected by enclosed walkways and was in need of comprehensive redevelopment whilst retaining an operating nursing home on the site.

We provided advice right from the beginning of the project that identified the risks with the redevelopment, particularly the many regulated and significant trees on the land, as well as managing the substantial slope across the site.

The new three-storey building pushed the height limits of the zone, but was carefully designed to manage its impact on neighbouring properties and existing buildings on the site.

We also advised on a strategy and undertook engagement with all of the neighbours to the development, well before lodgement of the development application, to explain the design, the reasons for its location and format, and how the design addressed issues of overlooking. As a result, there were no submissions as part of the application process.

Jensen PLUS were also engaged to develop the landscape concept for the site, critical to screening part of the building and integrating the entire site across new and existing areas. We developed a landscape design that capitalises on the significant trees as key landscape features, and builds sensory spaces and communal terraces and decks to complement the spaces and dementia facilities on the site. We also documented the landscape design for tender and performed contract administration with the chosen builder. The redevelopment opened in 2018.
