South Jerrabomberra Regional Job Precinct

Jensen PLUS led a multi-disciplinary team to master plan land at South Jerrabomberra for new employment and industry lands specialising in advanced manufacturing for space and defence industries, to leverage the region’s highly skilled workforce.

The location’s proximity to Queanbeyan and Canberra, the Hume Industrial Area, Canberra Airport, and freight corridors created a strategic opportunity for the envisaged mixed use and employment uses, with a focus on creating an Innovation District, supporting knowledge-sharing in a well-designed urban setting.

The master plan incorporates recent and proposed developments within the area, and also proposes new land uses that minimise impacts on nearby residential areas. Other challenges include the proximity of Canberra Airport flight paths, extensive biodiversity areas, supplying the precinct with new infrastructure and services, and a near-capacity road network, with new cross-border connections a major recommendation of the plan.

The plan proposes eight Sub Precincts - with different land use and business mixes - along with transport improvements, zoning, and urban design and placemaking principles to guide the precinct’s future development.
