Supporting Food with Purpose – A Year with OzHarvest
Over the past 12 months, Jensen PLUS has proudly supported OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, through corporate sponsorship - backing their incredible work in reducing food waste and feeding people in need.
Recently a few of our team members visited OzHarvest South Australia headquarters and toured their new community supermarket - a welcoming place providing free groceries to people doing it tough.
From the fleet of bright yellow food rescue vans to their cheerful kitchen, cold storage and produce shelves, the operation is smart, deeply human and full of impact. We left impressed by the people, systems and spirit driving OzHarvest’s mission forward.
Jensen PLUS staff said about the visit:
Vicki White, Business Manager:
"It was humbling to see how much food is earmarked to be thrown out when it can still be used. It was also a reminder on how much we, as consumers, waste food. It was inspiring to meet the staff and volunteers and find out about the wide range of services that OzHarvest provide."
Chao Du, Senior Landscape Architect:
“Visiting OzHarvest was a powerful reminder of how small actions can make a big difference. Seeing firsthand how they rescue surplus food and redirect it to those in need made me reflect on the invisible systems of waste and generosity that coexist in our cities.
For me, the visit was not only about food waste but about design thinking and community impact. As landscape architects, we often talk about sustainability in terms of materials and ecology - but OzHarvest showed how social sustainability is just as vital. It challenged me to think about how our designs can support community resilience and reduce waste in broader, more human ways.”
As a planning and design practice focused on sustainability and community, supporting OzHarvest aligns with our values - and offers a practical way to contribute to a more just and sustainable urban environment.
About OzHarvest
OzHarvest collects quality surplus food from commercial outlets and redistributes it to charities and programs that support vulnerable Australians. In South Australia, they deliver over 40,000 meals each week.
Their new OzHarvest Market in Adelaide is part of a growing network of community food hubs that combine rescue logistics with human-centred service design.
