Solomontown Beach Shelter

A brand-new Solomontown Beach Shelter has been delivered as a key element of the Riverbank Precinct project in Port Pirie, contributing to a more vibrant and connected foreshore.

The broader project enhances the quality and usability of the riverfront open space, including an upgraded promenade path that raises the finished walking surface to support flood mitigation, while improving accessibility for all users.

Designed to strengthen the riverfront as a destination for young people, families and community groups, the precinct incorporates a range of active and passive recreation opportunities. These include a new playground, pump track, basketball area, boardwalk and the Solomontown Beach Shelter.

Jensen PLUS worked closely with Port Pirie Regional Council, Tonkin and project partners to guide the project from concept and community engagement through to detailed design.

Replacing a deteriorated and underutilised structure, the new beach shelter introduces a series of carefully positioned shade sails over tiered seating. Integrated steps and ramps provide improved connections between the promenade, beach and jetty.

The result is a safe, flexible and inviting space that supports gathering, relaxation and informal recreation, strengthening connections to the waterfront and encouraging greater community use of the foreshore.
