In 2026, Jensen PLUS completed a new Leigh Creek Town Plan to guide the longterm evolution of this unique outback community, transitioning from its origins as a purpose-built mining town to a small but vital regional hub and great place to live. Developed with community and stakeholder engagement including a Co-Design Workshop in Leigh Creek, the plan establishes a framework for land use, infrastructure and placemaking over the next 30 years.

A key focus of the project is revitalising the town centre as a welcoming service hub for residents, workers and visitors. This includes land for new housing, public realm upgrades, activation of vacant shopfronts, a new tourist information arrival point, and more long vehicle and caravan parking to better capture passing trade and support local businesses.

The plan also identifies a series of projects to enhance liveability and attract visitation, including a new water play / splash park, expanded recreation areas, a heritage and cultural walking trail, and improved connections between the town centre,
recreation precinct and surrounding outback landscapes.
