Activating Hawthorn’s Hidden Gem

This project began in 2023 when Jensen PLUS worked with local stakeholders, including the Air Force Association and community, to develop a Master Plan for the area. Our commitment during the Master Plan stage, and positive working relationships with Council and the community, saw us appointed lead consultant for the detailed design and documentation of the new open spaces.

Named Hawthorn’s Hidden Gem, key components of the detailed design include activation of the area through passive and active recreation. A new, open lawn with shade trees, and a play space catering for younger and older children, will ensure the space is transformed into a popular destination for the local community.

Informed by the Master Plan, the design showcases local history and the culture of the precinct. We worked closely with a Kaurna artist and liaised with the Air Force Association group and Council staff to ensure these important aspects were
embedded into the design.

We are pleased to see Stage 1 built and completed in 2026, and look forward to the construction of Stage 2 after funding is secured.
