Broken Hill’s town square is a rare green space in the heart of the city. Linking the railway station with the main shopping streets of Argent Street and Chloride Street, Broken Hill Town Square is also a significant pedestrian link, and a meeting place for residents and visitors.

Jensen PLUS has prepared new designs for the town square, with improved all-abilities access to the central lawn, more seating at footpath and lawn level, misting sculptures as a feature and to stay cool, and more trees including in integrated planter boxes.

Feature paving areas showcasing local rocks and minerals, and a new shade structure by Phillips Pilkington Architects, are both inspired by the city’s mining heritage, and the whole of the design has been carefully crafted to sit within the strong heritage character of the city centre.

As lead design consultant, Jensen PLUS coordinated all design and engineering inputs, as well as leading stakeholder and community engagement at key stages of the design process.
