Glo Apartments Development Approval

Jensen PLUS was engaged by Econ Property Group to assist in the approval for the refit and expansion of an abandoned office building in Waymouth Street in the Adelaide CBD into apartments.

The proposal included adding three levels to the existing building on a site that presented a challenge due to three road frontages, the narrow width of the block and a strong desire by Council to activate the side streets. Working with the architect, we were able to successfully negotiate design treatments to the ground level façade that allowed for the only feasible car parking access desired by the client due to the width of the site. This also required negotiating with Council for the removal of existing parking along the side street.

The development represents a clever and well-designed response to a refurbishment of an existing commercial building to apartments. We also provided input into the design aspects of the apartments, which allowed for improving access to direct sunlight and natural ventilation, together with taking advantage of the outlook to the hills and across the city.

Notwithstanding some opposition, Jensen PLUS was able to successfully negotiate an approval through Council.
