The Mount Barker Showground Masterplan was a collaborative project between the Mount Barker District Council, stakeholder and user groups, and a multidisciplinary design team lead by Jensen PLUS. Situated in the heart of this Hills community, the showground has important historical and social significance, and is home to a variety of sporting clubs and uses including AFL, cricket and indoor sports.

Jensen PLUS developed a plan for a new community precinct that caters for the long term future of the Mount Barker Showground site, taking into consideration existing and potential sporting and community-based activities. In consultation with council and a wide range of stakeholders, a vision was established that helped guide decision-making including the evaluation of different design options.

The team recognised the importance of the showgrounds area to the town and people of the Mount Barker District, and recommended developing the site as an open space and community asset, improving the landscape and features for the enjoyment of a wide variety of people, of all ages and abilities. A new multi-purpose community building is proposed in the centre of the site, with other buildings and facilities to be upgraded over time.
