Chao Du becomes Registered Landscape Architect
We are proud to share that Landscape Architect Chao Du was recently honoured as a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA).
Chao says achieving his RLA is a significant milestone, particularly after relocating to Australia just two years ago to begin a new chapter in his career.
“It marks my formal entry into the Australian landscape architecture profession and provides an opportunity to establish stronger connections with peers and professionals in the industry.
“For me, this recognition is not only about professional growth but also about integrating my previous experience with the unique challenges and opportunities within an Australian context.”
Securing his status as a Registered Landscape Architect has been an important goal since moving to Australia.
“With more than a decade of experience in China and two years of practice here, I have been focusing on adapting to and contributing to the local landscape architecture community.
“The RLA process has been both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to deepen my understanding of Australian standards, environmental conditions, and community expectations while refining my design and technical skills.”
Chao hopes to leverage his RLA to pursue greater responsibilities and leadership, particularly where he can apply regenerative design principles, the foundation of the Jensen PLUS philosophy.
“It will also enhance my ability to contribute to climate positive design initiatives, creating spaces that are not only sustainable but also restorative,” says Chao.
“My personal design philosophy seeks to seamlessly intertwine engaging design with natural beauty, crafting spaces that promote genuine human connection.
“Moving forward, I aim to further incorporate these principles into my work, contributing to projects that leave a meaningful and positive impact on both the environment and the community.”
With a multicultural background bridging China and Australia, Chao has broad experience in residential, commercial and open space landscape design.
“Chao brings a great amount of skill and experience to our team, and our clients benefit greatly from his cross-cultural insights,” says Michael McKeown.
“He is a worthy recipient of this recognition, and I have no doubt that it will serve him well in strengthening his skills, expertise and knowledge and the value he adds to our clients and their projects.”
Chao was celebrated alongside six other newly registered landscape architects and four AILA Fellows at the AILA end of year celebration on 27 November.
