Henley Beach Road visioning

We are very excited to be continuing our work planning and designing Adelaide’s well-known main streets with a new project at Henley Beach Road.

This visioning project for the City of West Torrens is the first step in re-imagining a street that is home to landmarks such as the Thebarton Theatre, as well as a well-established retail and business community.

The project formally launched in early December at a well-attended business event at the Hotel Royal, hosted by Mayor Michael Coxon.

Hotelier and guest Peter Hurley also shared stories about the hotel’s past, including when he lived upstairs as a humble ‘suburban publican’.

Jensen PLUS Director Michael McKeown provided an introduction to the project’s urban design analysis with ‘five facts’ about the Henley Beach Road community, pedestrians, precincts, top land uses (only 20% retail), and tree canopy.

“It’s great to once again welcome regular collaborators to the project team, including David West, our main street retail guru, David Snoswell who computes the land use stats, and Steven Burgess from Complete Streets,” Michael says.

“We’ve also received robust information and support from the Department of Infrastructure and Transport’s transport planning team who are particularly interested in what the vision(s) for the street might be.”
