U-City recognised at the PIA National Awards for Excellence

We are delighted that U-City has received a Commendation at the 2021 Planning Institute of Australia National Awards for Excellence in the Great Place category.

The Judges noted:

Conceived as a vertical village comprising retail, commercial, social services and accommodation, U City is a significant mixed-use project which makes an important contribution to both the public realm and the provision of community-based support services, including specialist disability, short-stay, and retirement accommodation.

Through its scale and complexity, U City’s design is a respectful response to the site’s built history, incorporating design elements which reference the former church’s architectural form and use. The project is an exemplar in environmental sustainability and is the outcome of research in international best practice and end user engagement with a commitment to social sustainability and environmental design.

Through aspirational and collaborative thinking, U City acts as a model for future development and social service provision in our cities. It is recognised by the judging panel for its progressive, inclusive and integrated approach to project development with the capacity to benefit a much broader community than the one it accommodates.
