Building on the Barossa Village legacy
We are excited to have been engaged by Barossa Village to undertake foundation work for their Heritage Park Precinct in Nuriootpa.
In 2000 Barossa Village acquired Heritage Park, a 3ha parcel of land located adjacent to the existing Barossa Village Lodge site, earmarking this area to expand its offerings, increase its level of care and provide greater opportunities for community connections and partnerships.
Jensen PLUS has undertaken ‘pre-master planning’ activities supporting Barossa Village’s funding application to the Australian Government’s Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program for a grant to deliver a master plan for the site.
The project aims to develop 100 new mixed housing options for older people in Nuriootpa, setting a new standard in aged care with a focus on innovation, community integration, and sustainability.
It will also connect with local schools, community facilities, and the town’s economic centre, fostering a vibrant and interconnected community.
Ben Hall, CEO of Barossa Village, says, “This project is set to meet the evolving needs of our ageing population and foster a vibrant, multi-generational environment.”
“It will provide mixed housing options, that not only give older people the chance to right-size their living environments but free up housing alternatives from within the community to support a growing population.”
Through the delivery of this new precinct, Ben also says that Barossa Village will refocus the services they are offering to the community and “push the boundaries of what it means to be an aged care service provider in a regional community”.

“It has been a rewarding process working with Ben and the Barossa Village team on the pre-feasibility work to support their grant funding application.
“They are taking a very thoughtful, considered and thorough approach to the project and ensuring that it has all the undertones of positive ageing and support the broader community to build connections and belonging.”
The project has a strong local context and the master plan will be developed using a ‘village heart’ concept that promotes a central park as the focal point, that connects all land uses and activities of the village — accommodation, community hub, and administration.
“We are hopeful that Barossa Village secure this funding as it will make a profound impact on the local community and for generations to come,” says Michael.
